Birmingham, Alabama’s Steel City Jug Slammers won the 2015 Minneapolis Battle of the Jug Bands, and they have been featured on Minnesota Public Radio’s A Prairie Home Companion.
Following an encounter with railroad–traveling musician Stumps the Clown, they picked up a washboard, as well as his whimsical attitude. The blow of the jug and the pluck of the tub bass pulls listeners right in. And with their good–time Southern banter, this group has all the charm of a century–old traveling music show fresh off the train.
Ramblin’ Ricky Tate, Washtub Jay, Byron Barry Tate, and Maxwell Honeycup have been touring for five years. Drawing on inspiration from the national jug band scene as well as classic country, blues, and jazz, the band has produced a self–titled album and some special session recordings.
Take a trip back to another place and time by settling in for a set with the Steel City Jug Slammers.
